LAND MANAGEMENT

Closure Planning

In accordance with our Zero Harm vision, we strive to keep land disturbance to a minimum. All of our operations have reclamation plans in place that are routinely updated. We have also developed corporate guidance for closure planning and cost estimation in an effort to lead the industry in accurately estimating closure costs.

One of the objectives for any mine with regard to closure is to plan early and to consult regularly with stakeholders so that expectations are managed and that sufficient time is allotted to remediate the land. Mine closure has environmental, health and safety and social implications. Although IAMGOLD sites have a mine closure policy in place, to ensure that we are taking an industry-leading approach, we created the closure working group in 2011. Over the course of the next two years, the group will work to develop a corporate closure standard which will take into consideration the social aspect of closure.
