At Univar we are Serious about Safety. Univar is committed to clear and visible leadership to make health, safety, security and environmental issues at the foundation in our planning for all existing and new operations, products, processes and facilities. It is our responsibility to provide safe working conditions, protect the environment and challenge ourselves to continually improve in all aspects of Environment, Health and & Safety (EH&S).
Univar sites and facilities have joint management-worker Health and Safety Committees as appropriate for the scale of individual sites. Our committees are just one of many reasons why our safety culture is truly embedded into our global operations. Vital initiatives that have led to gradual improvements in global safety metrics during the last 11 years include:
In recognition for this unwavering commitment to safety, Univar’s ChemCare™ waste management achieved the highest certification awarded by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for mobile workforces in 2016 for our site in Houston, Texas, USA.
Univar tracks worker injuries using the U.S. Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) standardized methodology of Total Case Incident Rate (TCIR), which is the rate of recordable injuries per 200,000 hours worked. In 2016, this fell to a record low of 0.68. Our long-term commitment to improving worker safety is illustrated below:
In support of our continuous improvement ethos, we use injury causation data to inform and focus our prevention efforts. Causation data for all 2016 is shown below.
